First Came The Drought... top

In 2011 Texas was gripped by a severe drought which lasted four years and resulted in Lake Travis dropping 55 feet in elevation and resulted in the Highland Lakes losing 70% of their water capacity. The drought was unprecedented in its intensity. The 12-month rainfall total for October 2010 through September 2011 was the worst one-year period of drought in Texas since 1895. Average temperatures for June through August were over 2 degrees above the previous Texas record and were close to the warmest statewide summer temperatures ever recorded in the United States. The drought persisted for four years and Lake Travis did not recover until 2015, allowing the return of the J/24 Texas State Championship back to Austin Yacht Club in 2016.

Then Came The Floods... top

Well there's floodin' down in Texas
All of the telephone lines are down
And I've been tryin' to call my baby
Lord and I can't get a single sound...
